And the pots?
"I want them to be lovely to handle or look at, and pleasing to use... sounds easy! I'm mainly a wheel potter and dabbler with slabs, not a sculptor and certainly not a 'style' guru. Every piece is unique so that even a 'set' is made up of siblings not identical sextuplets, and a mug is as much a challenge to craftsmanship as a huge bowl, though large pieces demand more artistic input."

John's inspiration comes from the natural world with its shapes, textures and colours, everything from deep space to the petals of a violet. These photos may convey something of the feel of the pieces, whose surface textures often come from a particular way of turning. The glazes meld into the surfaces to resemble bark, or the play of light on water. Recently I've been trying to base pieces on photographs from the Hubble Telescope.

Wall plates, decorative bowls and vases.
Soup bowls, mugs, teapots, carafe sets for leisurely wine-and-talk, cheese domes, dinner services
Chalice and paten sets for communion, and crosses for both wall hanging and the altar.
John also enjoys making commissions and commemorative pieces. So if the particular items shown are not quite right for you (for instance the carafe can come with or without a handle), he will be only too happy to adapt them for you.
